Director Natalia Kovalyova staged the play based on her own version, created on the basis of the works by Dmitry Merezhkovsky and Evgeny Simonov, supplementing them with scenes of her owns: an imaginary meeting of the emperor with his mother, Catherine II.
Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Alexander Oleshko plays the role of the "Russian Hamlet". The scenery and costumes are made according to sketches by the chief artist of the Vakhtangov Theater, Maxim Obrezkov.
