Biography

Soviet and Russian painter, graphic artist, and publicist. Member of the International Union of Artists.

Was born on September 27, 1953, in Moscow. Graduated from the I.E. Repin Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in 1974.

He participated in the first exhibitions of "unofficial art" in Leningrad at the Gaz Palace of Culture in 1974 and at the Nevsky Palace of Culture in 1975. He was a member of the "Association of Experimental Visual Art" (Tovarishchestvo Eksperimentalnogo Izobrazitelnogo Iskusstva). As early as 1977, his first solo exhibition was held at the Dzerzhinsky House of Culture.

His solo exhibitions have been held at the State Russian Museum, and in Berlin, London, New York, and Paris. His works are held in museums and private collections in Russia and abroad; he is the author of over 50 articles, the book "Expedition #6," and the television program "Krysha poekhala" ("The Roof Went Off," meaning "Lost One's Marbles").

Today, Anatoly Belkin's works are part of major museums and private collections worldwide.

In 1999, he became the founding editor-in-chief of St. Petersburg's first glossy magazine, "Sobaka.ru," where he worked until 2005. His departure from the publication was connected to his transition to a new project, "Veshch.doc".
